Itä-Karjalan kansanopisto is located in Punkaharju, on the beautiful island of Vaahersalo, on the shore of Lake Saimaa. The summer hostel is about 7 kilometres (4.5 miles) from the centre of Punkaharju towards the town of Savonlinna.
The hostel has single, twin and triple rooms, and a maximum of 2 rooms will share one shower and toilet. We also have a slide for wheelchairs and a disabled toilet.
The hostel facilities include fully-equipped meeting rooms. Meals are available from breakfast only to full board, but it is also possible to cook your own meals in the customer kitchen. The hostel also has a self-service laundry.
Guests can rent the sauna and the lounge with a fireplace which are right on the lake. There is also a barbecue area close by. The surrounding nature offers great opportunities for exercise and roaming in the woods.
There are several cultural and sport events taking place in the Savonlinna region during the summer season. These include Opera Festival, ballet visits, Retretti Art Centre, Lusto Forest Culture days, Sulkava Rowing Race and Mobile Phone Throwing World Championships.
