Vaihelan tila

Open all year round, Vaihelan tila is a countryside hostel that offers cosy accommodation surrounded by beautiful nature. The hostel is located in Joutsa, in the lovely village of Pappinen. Here you can get to know authentic Finnish countryside where cattle raising and forestry are still a big part of the everyday life of the locals. There is a functioning farm adjacent to the hostel. Learn more about the history of Finnish agriculture in the farm’s own museum and get to know the animals around the farm.

Close to Vaihelan tila you will find Leivonmäki National Park, offering a great opportunity for rambling along marked paths. The forests surrounding the farm are ideal for hiking, cycling and picking mushrooms and berries. Nearby lakes are perfect for fishing in winter as well as in summer.

In Vaihelan tila you will be accommodated in comfortable rooms with up to 4 beds. Toilets and showers are in the corridors. Good communal areas give you the opportunity to unwind in front of the fireplace, watch TV or even play pool. You can also test your musical skills on the piano. There is a free WiFi in the hostel.

In our well-equipped kitchen you can easily cook your own meals. Breakfast and other meals can also be booked in advance. The traditional Finnish delicacies of the buffet table are a real must!

The hostel’s wood-heated sauna and the smoke saunas by the lake will offer you a unique experience and a glimpse into the Finnish sauna tradition. Taking a dip into the lake straight from the sauna is another unforgettable experience.

The hostel can organise small-scale meetings and training sessions. Please enquire about the possibilities in advance.

The best way to reach the hostel is by car, but during school terms there is also a school bus which stops close to the hostel. Ask the proprietors for more information on how to best get to the hostel.
