Tapion Tupa has been chosen as The Best Hostel in Finland 2019. This peasant-style hostel is located in Kalajoki, right next to the famous sand bank, and offers versatile meeting, catering and accommodation services.
The selection was made by the board of the Finnish Hostel Association on the basis of proposals received from hostel customers. The selection emphasized feedback about the hostel’s atmosphere, services and versatile activities. “Tapion Tupa actively maintains and updates remarkably versatile services, that also enable travellers to experience authentic local culture”, says Sanni Viirto, the Secretary General of the Finnish Hostel Association.
Tapion Tupa has been built by honouring old traditions and this year the hostel has been operating for 40 years. The hostel area consists of 15 log cabins – the oldest being from the 17th century. Tapion Tupa is a family-run hostel and offers room, apartment and log cabin accommodation for both individual travellers and groups. The hostel has 100 beds during the winter and 150 beds during the summer. In addition, Tapion Tupa has its own water park called Tapioland and a caravan area which is open year-round. Their changing art exhibitions are also a must-see, while visiting. Tapion Tupa is an excellent place to hold diverse events and celebrations.
Their catering services consist of local Finnish foods. Tapion Tupa’s restaurant serves home-made local delicacies while local goods can be purchased from their built-in boutique. All buildings as well as the water park are energy produced by domestic woodchips while part of the energy is generated from solar panels. You can also find an electric car charging spot at Tapion Tupa.
The Finnish Hostel Association rewards a successful hostel under The Best Hostel in Finland name every year. The nomination has been given since 2004 and during the previous years it has been rewarded under The Hostel of the Year name. The Hostel of the Year 2018 was Hostel Suomenlinna in Helsinki.
